Pre-power checklist

  • Verify board orientation against the manufacturer diagram before soldering.
  • Confirm XT60, ESC VBAT, FC VBAT, and GND polarity before soldering the battery lead.
  • Install the low-ESR capacitor with the stripe on the ground side and leads as short as practical.
  • Continuity-check VBAT to GND before connecting any LiPo power.
  • Confirm the 5V and 9V accessory loads stay inside the FC regulator ratings before powering video, GPS, buzzer, or LEDs.
  • Use a smoke stopper or current-limited bench supply for first LiPo power-up, then disconnect immediately if it trips, heats, smells burnt, or shows abnormal LEDs.
  • Power from USB first when possible, then confirm receiver, video, GPS, buzzer, and LEDs one at a time.

Power path

Battery lead, ESC input, capacitor, VBAT sensing, and rail limits need to be explicit before any diagram can be trusted.

Motor and ESC path

The first checks cover FC-to-ESC harness orientation, motor output order, telemetry availability, and bidirectional DShot readiness.

UART and protocol path

Receivers, GPS, VTX control, HD MSP DisplayPort, and ESC telemetry compete for serial resources on the flight controller.

Video path

Analog and digital builds have different pad, connector, voltage, camera, and antenna constraints.

  • Camera ecosystem matches VTX
  • Antenna connector or adapter is known
